Description
Cefadroxil (Cefadur)500 Mg is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria such as infections of the skin, throat, tonsils, and urinary tract. Cefadroxil is in a class of medications called cephalosporin antibiotics.
Cefadroxil (Cefadur)500 Mg works by killing bacteria. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu).
Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections.
Dosage
Cefadroxil comes as a capsule, tablet, and suspension (liquid) to take by mouth. It is usually taken with or without food every 12 or 24 hours . Take cefadroxil with food to reduce nausea and stomach upset. Shake the suspension well before each use to mix the medication evenly. If you are using the liquid form of this medication, shake the bottle well before each dose. Carefully measure the dose using a special measuring The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. In children, the dosage is also based on weight.

Precautions
Precautions : Before therapy with cefadroxil is instituted, careful inquiry should be made to determine whether the patient has had previous hypersensitivity reactions to cefadroxil, cephalosporins, penicillins, or other drugs. If this product is to be given to penicillin-sensitive patients, caution should be exercised because cross-sensitivity among beta-lactam antibiotics has been clearly documented and may occur in up to 10% of patients with a history of penicillin allergy.
Cefadroxil should be used with caution in the presence of markedly impaired renal function (creatinine clearance rate of less than 50 mL/min/1.73 m2). In patients with known or suspected renal impairment, careful clinical observation and appropriate laboratory studies should be made prior to and during therapy. Prescribing cefadroxil tablets in the absence of a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection or a prophylactic indication is unlikely to provide benefit to the patient and increases the risk of the development of drug-resistant bacteria.
Prolonged use of cefadroxil may result in the overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms. Careful observation of the patient is essential. If super-infection occurs during therapy, appropriate measures should be taken.
